I cycled the cartridge out, it ejected fine, with the bullet intact.Question for the Marlin experts. I cleaned my gun up really well after shooting it this past Friday. I noticed after I put it back together the firing pin moves freely in the bolt. When I work the action part of the firing pin moves toward the hammer, like it should but I can also push it...buckeyeshooter. I put one in my 1894 in 44 mag that I use for cowboy action shooting. The reason I used the one piece firing pin is that I added a spring kit that lowered the power of the hammer strike. This allows much less effort in cycling the lever and makes it faster and smoother to shoot.

Here is a pic of the bolt firing pin retaining stud on my 2009 model 39a. Marlin added the retaining stud in 1988. As the picture indicates, the outer edge of the stud is just enough to keep the firing pin from being removed. It's main purpose is to keep the pin from marring the top of the reciever when cycling the action.
