This experience hasnt been quite perfect using an external monitor with this game on the deck, I tried two different displays, they are 4k native, (a projector and oled tv). Also doing any in game chat is out of the question, atleast for me, I am not usig an external keyboard or mouse, just trying to use the onscreen deck keyboard.

Apparently the official FFXIV launcher works on Steam Deck again fwiw. To answer your question though, install the official FFXIV game on Steam, add FFXIVLauncher as a Steam game and then you open that when you want to play FFXIV. Oh dang, yeah it seems that way.
