When I tried to weld it would only spark slightly at the rod tip but would not start. I pulled the sides off and found the fuseable link going to the capacitor was fried.

Re: Miller Blue Star 2E ac/dc question.. Good to hear the unit runs and probably welds. Your weld output OCV (Open Circuit Voltage) is a little low. Should be +/-80V and your low reading could simply be low engine RPM in WELD mode or you didn't have the Fine Voltage control set to 100%.
Miller still makes a "Blue Star" series but not the 2E. The new ones sell for around $1800 or more. You should be able to find a tag somewhere on the unit that will have the full model and serial number on it. I was told that the parts for the Tecumseh engine was obsolete. I need to find a magneto, coil, flywheel and a carb. if possible.I started outwith a Bluestar 2E. It was a good little machine. I got it used from a rental fleet in '84 for $500. Sold it in '88 for $550. They have some quirks. The battery needs to be in good shape at all times. If it stops welding right or gets rough, check the batt. Low or weak batt = rough to bad weld output.
