To be honest I wouldn't even use rivers of blood anymore, I'm currently dual handing the godskin peeler and twined knight swords, both + 20-ish with sepuku on both, and they shred anything that bleeds. Just make sure your using the LB/L1 while jumping for max effect. But to awnser your actual question, yeah it's a pretty good substitute
