The action economy nightmare is just part of it...you outright lose damage by going this route. If you want a 2h weapon, don't be a thaumaturge. The Thaumaturge feels more Witchy than the Witch. I suspect this is due to the some of the clear themes and inspirations for the thaumaturge hewing closely to Western occultism and folk-magic traditions. With the option to take a familiar and multi-class archetypes can't see any much of a reason to take the witch as a class.
