I just purchased a 97 Vulcan 1500 classic, I think I got a great deal, the bike is superb. It just needed a tire, a battery, and I had to fix a minor oil leak. The bike makes a bit of a fuss shifting into 2nd gear, it grinds for a second before finding the gear. Occasionally the shift is smooth, but 9/10 it grinds.I replace the battery and try to start it but was having a lot of difficulty starting it. A friend (Mercedes tech) and I diagnosed coils as the issue, no voltage at plug wires. I let it sit over the winter as Chicago winters can get darn cold.The petcock is putting fuel into the pump. but the pump will not pump when cranking the engine over. I did notice that sometimes when turning the ignition switch off it would quick make a single tap noise and spray a stream of gas out of the pump. Good on the neutral light. You should get the spark checker as it can show a very weak spark vs. no spark which are two different problems. If you cant crank, as posted above, for many minutes and the battery dies, have your battery load tested.

Went to go visit a friend, shut the bike down and when I was ready to leave she wouldn't start. The battery went dead, so I bought a new one and she still wont start. Checked all the fuse's and connections. Still no luck. 1. Active codes that have been repaired are self clearing and are shuffled off to the historical code bin and saved there. 2. The vehicle down sensor is re-settable after the bike has been righted and the ignition is powered off and on. The sensor itself latches until the proper sequence to reset is followed.1. Clean your ground cable where it attaches to the back of motor. Make sure its tight. 2. Disconnect your battery, make sure your wires attaching to your starter solenoid are clean and tight.
