The transtint cherry is much too red for my taste. I rarely stain or tint to try to produce an imitation cherry or other wood.

Transtint will be picked up on the brush if you use waterborne finish, shellac, or lacquer. You should be alright if you use an oil-base topcoat. Once you have one coat on it will seal the dye in.
