The real tranny number is not visible anywhere on the outside or on the inside of the gearbox. It would contain 3 numbers, but those numbers would be the last 3 ones of the ...Conclusion: swapping out a newer Getrag 260 and replacing it with an older was is doable, but enough of a PITA that given the choice I would happily pay more for the correct used transmission, or sourced the correct shifter platform and related parts. I've found that the front case gets removed from the rear case, and all the transmission internals stay mounted to the rear case. I've removed: Input bearing retainer. Snap ring from input shaft. Reverse light switch.
